The open innovation community “Design Human Machine Interface (HMI)” was created in 2012 by the Mov’eo cluster. Two years later, healthy competitiveness is always there! The release of the book “DESIGN of DIGITAL INTERFACES in 170 keywords” is a first example.
Three years ago, Mov’eo, through the key strategic business area “Intelligent Mobility Solution” (SMI), launched a first workshop on Man Machine Interface. The idea was to enable the various actors involved in HMI design to express their prospective vision of the interfaces in the vehicle of tomorrow and to identify the key issues. Encouraged by the success of these meetings, the project to gather an open innovation community on Man Machine Interface is quickly established.
Since its creation, the community has grown and strengthened and now counts almost 80 members. Multidisciplinary, it has engineers, researchers, ergonomists and designers with a real bias : incorporating the user at the heart of the debate. Finally, it brings together designers – large companies, SMEs and start ups – from the transport, telephony and services sectors.
“The aim of this network of Man / Machine Interface design players is to share experiences and best practices, discover innovative new solutions and initiate collaborative projects”
Isabelle Edessa, head of Open Innovation at PSA Peugeot Citroën
The objective of this network of actors in the Man / Machine Interface design is to share experiences and best practices, discover innovative new solutions and initiate collaborative projects, “says Isabelle Edessa, driver of the community, a member of Intellligent Mobility Solutions R&D strategic key area and head of Open Innovation at PSA Peugeot Citroën. In 2012, the idea of a first collaborative project is launched: developing a lexicon of man / machine interfaces for the different professions involved in design. A group of experts is set up to to identify and define the most frequently used terms and concepts. Also involved in this approach: the Agency for the Promotion of Industrial Creation (APCI), the professional association *Interactive Designers* and the Systematic cluster. Intended during a first stage to the community, this collaborative work held the attention of the publishing house Dunod.
Released in January 2013, the book “The DESIGN of DIGITAL INTERFACES in 170 keywords“, was launched at the Gaite Lyrique (Paris), place of cultures in the digital era. Given the success of this first collaborative project – the book is almost out of print – the community has set a new challenge. “We want to open our community to Europe. In this context, the cluster will play a critical role in particular because of its presence in the cluster SAGE (Safe and Green Road Vehicles Europe),” said Isabelle Edessa. “The DESIGN of DIGITAL INTERFACES in 170 keywords” is available at DUNOD editions in paper and digital version (160 pages, € 12)
